Welcome back from the Thanksgiving "Break". Man, didn't the time go by quickly?! I hope that you were able to spend an enjoyable few days with family members and/or friends.
We have three weeks of school before we take our two-week "Holiday Break". Our last day of school is December 19th, and it is a full day. This year, we are stopping school a few days before Christmas, so I guess the administration felt we should put in a full day on the 19th. We are having our classroom "Christmas Party" on Thursday, December 18th. If this should be a "snow day", then we would have the opportunity to reschedule the party for the 19th. On the 19th, report cards will come home.
This week, our reading group routine will be interrupted by my assessing student progress in Reading. However, since I already assessed sight word growth before I conferenced with you, it will be unnecessary to do it again so soon. Therefore, sight words will come home this week, and so will the "little readers", though the readers will be Unfamiliar until Thursday. Please make sure the children practice them with you.
I have updated the Important Dates and Events section of this blog, so you may want to check it out for December and January. Names of "Secret Santa" buddies went home before Thanksgiving . Please remember that the gift your child selects should be UNDER $7, should not be candy, and should be wrapped with YOUR CHILD'S Name on the inside, and the receiving child's name on the outside. If the purchase of this gift should be a hardship for your family, please contact me. There are resources to help. Please don't send the gift in before December 10th, the day our Christmas tree is going up. Thanks. Remember, we are looking for families interested in helping us furnish the Christmas party supplies. One family has already offered to get all paper products. Now I could use help with food and drink. Thanks in advance, if you can help.
Oh, please remember to send in winter gear with your child. If we don't need it, we won't use it. But chances are good we will need at least coat, hats, mittens or gloves, and boots. If there is snow on the ground, snow pants are needed, too, or your child has to remain on the "turn-around" paved area.
That's all for today. I will write again over the weekend.
