Hello. The testing is now behind us for this next little stretch of time, and now all I have to do is put all of the information acquired into report cards for you. These report cards will be coming home next weekend, along with YOUR copy of your child's Winter NWEA tests (taken at the end of January). Please keep this copy for your records. It, along with copies of previous and subsequent NWEA, will help you see how your child is doing compared to his or her peers at CPS, within the grade level across the district, and within the grade level nationally. As you read the report card, keep in mind that I have included many explanations in the comment section at the end of my portion of the report card. Should you have any further questions about it or about the NWEA reporting sheet, please feel free to contact me.
As you know from the skeleton posters that came home on Friday, we are studying systems of the human body in Science class. So far, we have done the skeletal and muscular system. We will also talk about the digestive system, the respiratory system, the brain and nervous system, and the heart and the circulatory system. In May, on the 19th, we have reserved tickets to take our first grade to go see "Slim Goodbody" at the Public Theatre in Auburn. Mr. Goodbody has been doing a theatrical show about the human body for many years, and we thought the children might enjoy a show that directly connects to what we are studying. We will make the event a "bag lunch" field trip, with the expectation that we will return to school before regular buses. There will be a cost to families of $5.00 per students, and there will be no chaperones. I did want you to know the cost right now because I know some of you will have to find the money somewhere. Please remember that if you are truly having difficulty coming up with the money, Mr. Brown does have a small fund set up to help parents that need assistance. You can let me know, or let him know directly.
The snow is slowly melting, and I know many of you are anxious to get rid of the winter gear, but for the next few weeks, your child will need to continue to bring hats, mittens, BOOTS, and snow pants to go out to play. It is muddy out there, and still cold at times, so it is a good idea for him or her to have the gear with them. Thank you. I appreciate your assistance with this matter. I have a few hats and mittens, and the kids have gone through them. I have no more, so if they don't bring what they need, they will have to stay on the tar area and play. Unfortunately, that's where most of the mud is.
