News From Our Classroom

This newsletter should be rather brief today, since we had another short week last week.   We did get our NWEAs completed, and that information will be shared with you this Friday when progress reports go home.
On Monday of this coming week, I will have a few DRAs I will need to give, so I won't have regular Reading Groups that day.  Your child will have a chance to preread his or her book for the day with a peer, and will review sight words and spelling words with a friend, as well.  That's right--spelling starts on Monday.   On the first day of the week, your child will bring home a paper on which he or she has written each of his/her five spelling words for the week several times.  This paper will inform you of his/her spelling words for the week, so you probably want to make sure you put it somewhere "safe" until Friday.  Since each child has his/her own unique set of words, I am not printing out their words each week.  So this Monday paper will be what is informing you of your child's words.
The weather reports are not favorable for Monday night/ Tuesday's weather--again.  We will go on as usual when we do have school.   Thursday IS a RugRat ski day, so PLEASE let me know how your child will be collected on Thursday!   Thank you.
Spelling tests (as well as sight word and fluency sentence tests) happen on the last day of the school week.  Your child's sight words for this week are the same as last week, since it was another SHORT week.  As I stated above, progress reports for your child will be coming home this Friday in your child's daily folder.  His or her NWEA report will be included with this information.  Please sign that you have seen the progress report, and return it to me.  If you would like a copy to keep, I will photocopy the one with your signature, and return it to you for your records.
That's all for now.  Have a good week, and I will talk to you again next weekend.
